83rd Annual Academy Awards

Winners of 83rd Annual Academy Awards

1. BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS - Melissa Leo for “The Fighter” - Melissa Leo won the award for her role The Fighter, her first win! She said she was "shaking in my boots" on the stage, and thanked the usual suspects -- managing to break down in tears and some intense emotion about a third of the way through her speech. Way to kick off the evening!

2. BEST ANIMATED FEATURE - Lee Unkrich for “Toy Story 3” - No big surprise here: Another Pixar film takes the prize! Lee Unkrich accepted the prize, thanking the Academy and Pixar, of course. He thanked the world for embracing a movie about "talking toys," and his grandma.

3. BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY - Aaron Sorkin - Aaron Sorkin took home the Oscar for The Social Network. He definitely maxed out his speech time, thanking a whole lot of people before being ushered off the stage.

4. BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY - avid Seidler - The King's Speech won its first award of the evening! Writer David Seidler came up to accept the award, starting off by getting laughs for saying, "The writer's speech, this is terrifying," after walking to the wrong spot on the stage. He said he's the oldest person to win the award and hopes the record is broken "quickly and often."

5. BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM - Susanne Bier for “In a Better World” Denmark - In a Better World became the first film from Denmark to win the prestigious prize. The film's creator Susanne Bier came up and said, "Is this a real Oscar?"

6. BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR - Christian Bale for “The Fighter” - Christian Bale took home his very first Oscar for his role in The Fighter. "What the hell am I doing here?" he said upon taking the mic. He said he wouldn't drop the "eff bomb like Melissa" (his co-star), but he was pretty darn happy. He thanked his wife last, then broke down in tears. What a softie!

7. BEST ORIGINAL SCORE - Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross - Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross won the Oscar for The Social Network's score. Trent and Atticus took the mic and thanked all the big names -- including their wives. Well done.

8. BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE - Charles Ferguson and Audrey Marrs for “Inside Job” - Charles Ferguson and Audrey Marrs accepted the award for Inside Job. "Let the record show, I'm not wearing jeans," Charles said before handing the mic over to Audrey.

9. BEST LIVE ACTION SHORT FILM - Luke Matheny - Newcomer Luke Matheny accepted the Oscar for his film God of Love, and told the audience, "I should've got a haircut" upon taking the stage. The enthusiastic filmmaker gave a heartfelt speech in which he thanked his mom and the "love of his life," who also scored the film. It was definitely one of the better, sweeter speeches of the evening.

10 BEST ORIGINAL SONG - Randy Newman - Randy Newman picked up his second Oscar for his work in Toy Story 3. He said he's doing pretty well, since he's been nominated for 20 awards and has two. He said he slows down the show every time and kind of rambled along, but it was an overall endearing speech.

11. BEST DIRECTOR - Tom Hooper for The King's Speech” - Tom Hooper picked up the prize for The King's Speech. He thanked his fellow nominees and told the story about how the movie came to be -- through his mom! He ended with: "The moral of the story is listen to your mother."

12. BEST ACTRESS IN A LEAD ROLE - Natalie Portman for “Black Swan” - A pregnant Natalie Portman picked up her first Academy Award for Black Swan. She thanked her parents (who were in the audience), her team, agents, friends, and all the people who've hired her over the years. She ended with a shout out to her "beautiful love" who gave her the "most important role of [her] life.

13. BEST ACTOR IN A LEAD ROLE - Colin Firth for “The King's Speech” - Colin Firth got on the stage to accept his award for The King's Speech and said, "I have a feeling my career's just peaked." He gave shout-outs to everyone under the sun, and managed to drop a line about being "a child sensation."

14. BEST PICTURE - The King's Speech - Iain Canning, Emile Sherman and Gareth Unwin, Producers - The King's Speech lived up to its hype and came away with the biggest award of the evening. Much of the cast and crew came up to the stage to accept the big honor.
